How Music Industry Has Swapped Sides
The music industry; is it a group of people creating complex symphonies of art, or just a cheap excuse to make vast amounts of riches. What began as a simple way for an inspiring musician to get their voice heard has changed into a multibillion dollar rat race. Throughout the past hundred years it has completely swapped sides to become the opposite of what is originally was meant to be.
Music has been around throughout most of time. It wasn檛 until the early 1900檚 when the technology came around to make it possible to record voice and instruments. Tons of different recording company檚 came and went. By the end of the 1980s six companies took over as the main leaders of the industry EMI, Sony, BMG, PolyGram, WEA and MCA. Artists showcased their talents by releasing albums to the world. Soon enough the leaders of the industry decided to switch their roots over from bringing music around the world, to making mad dollars.
The first artist ever used to go down this path was Elvis Presley. Yes he is one of the most talented musicians of all time, but he also did not write any of his own music. Why have one person write for themselves when you can get five or six people to write a hit song everyone will scream over.
This cash creating cycle is still going on to this day. Throughout the 80檚 and early 90檚 there were large amounts of famous solo artists who never wrote much of their own music such as Madonna and Michael Jackson. Then around the end of the 90檚 record companies created the cash nuke of the industry known as pop music groups. These groups included The Backstreet Boys, N-Sync, S Club 7, Destiny檚 Child, and the Spice Girls. What gets more money than getting 5 insanely sexy girls that every guy would go nuts over, and make it appear that they have talent?
This now leads us into the 2000檚. With the invention of filters and autotune, this now made it possible for even the worst singers to sound absolutely perfect. Think about the top singers of right now; they are all insanely attractive/sexy yet they can檛 sing live worth crap. There is an endless list of artists guilty of being part of this industry cash bomb. The company檚 will even pay the charts and countdowns to put their hit artists in the top spots. This way of cheating the system will make the public believe that everyone loves the artist. When in fact it is popular just for the reason it is possible. Now where are all of the most talented and creative musicians? They are either barely on the charts, or they are stuck writing music for these talentless pop singers. It is also now insanely rare to see a real singer or band in the top five spots.
Now you can see the slow changes the industry has made to change from art into a business. It went from skilled musicians, to autotuned talentless messes. Next time you pay for a CD or download a song on iTunes think of if you actually like the song, or if you just like it because others do.Anyone Want To Proofread A COOL EXCITING ESSAY!!!!!!!!?Correction-- The music industry is a group of people creating complex symphonies of art, or just a cheap excuse to make vast amounts of riches.
